Frequently Asked Questions
CAN I BRING MY DECEASED PET DIRECTLY TO YOU?
Yes, you are welcome to bring your pet directly to Sleepy Hollow during our office hours.
DO I NEED AN APPOINTMENT TO BRING IN MY PET?
No, one or more of our staff members are always available during our office hours and will be able to remove your pet from your vehicle and complete the necessary arrangements.
WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO TRANSPORT MY PET?
We recommend wrapping your pet in a towel, blanket or sheet and if possible, you may lay your pet in his or her bed or in a box. When placing in your vehicle we suggest a protective barrier over seat or floor to minimize any soiling that might occur.
CAN YOU PICK UP MY PET FROM ANY LOCAL VETERINARIAN OR ANIMAL HOSPITAL?
If you make cremation arrangements through one of our participating veterinary offices, we will pick up your pet from them. If you wish to make arrangements directly with Sleepy Hollow then you will need to transport your pet to us.
DO I NEED TO BRING MY PET IN OR CAN I HAVE SOMEONE ELSE COME IN FOR ME?
A relative or friend may bring your pet to us and the arrangements can be handled in one of two ways. You can call in advance to provide the needed information and take care of payment or the person who will be acting as your agent can handle that for you.
I LIVE IN THE ALTURAS AREA.
HOW CAN I MAKE ARRANGMENTS FOR MY PET TO BE CREMATED AT SLEEPY HOLLOW?
The Modoc Veterinary Center is very kind and will hold your pet until you can make arrangements. You may call us, 530.365.9093 to provide us with the needed information and to arrange for payment. Once the arrangements are finalized, your pet will be transported to Sleepy Hollow. After the cremation has been completed and depending on your request, your pet’s cremains will be returned to the Modoc Veterinary Center or mailed directly to you.
WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT DO YOU ACCEPT?
We accept cash, check, and all credit cards – Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express. Unfortunately, we are not allowed to offer CareCredit as we do not qualify as a medical facility.
HOW WILL MY PET’S CREMAINS BE RETURNED TO ME?
Included with the cremation, Sleepy Hollow provides an attractive dark brown tin urn with gold paw prints and leafing. The words “Until We Meet Again At The Rainbow Bridge” is embossed on the lid. For Critters/Pocket Pets or for Ranch Animals we have a very nice cream color blue floral tin urn. We also have many specialty urns that families can purchase for their beloved pet. We offer a wide selection of urns, keepsakes and pendants. Please see “View All Urns”
CAN I BE CONFIDENT I'LL RECEIVE MY PET'S CREMATED REMAINS?
Yes, each pet has a completed AfterCare Authorization tag with them at all times. In addition to the ACA tag, each pet is assigned a cremation disc which is placed inside the chamber with them during cremation. This disc number is then verified at each stage of the process ensuring the identity of your pet’s cremains. This disc is removed when we place your pet’s cremation label on his or her urn.
WHEN WILL I BE ABLE TO PICKUP MY PET’S CREMAINS?
The cremation time can vary depending on our scheduling.
- If you made arrangements directly with Sleepy Hollow, under our normal timeframe we advise families that it should be approximately one week but at times could be up to 10 days.
- If we received your pet from your veterinary office, your pet’s cremation is usually complete and their cremains returned to the veterinary office in 10 days, 2 weeks at most.
WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY PET PASSES WHEN YOU ARE CLOSED?
After hours assistance is available. Please call our main number, 530.365.9093 to leave an emergency message. We should return your call within 30 minutes between the hours of 8AM & 11PM. We will be able to answer your questions and by appointment receive your pet. An after-hours fee will apply.
If your pet should pass after midnight, you may bring your pet to us in the morning. Open weekdays at 9am or on Saturday at 10am.
IS THERE SOMETHING I SHOULD DO IF I NEED TO KEEP MY PET OVERNIGHT UNTIL YOU OPEN IN THE MORNING?
You should wrap your pet in a towel, sheet or blanket with a protective barrier (plastic bags, rug, pet bed) underneath in the coolest part of your home. In the summertime, if possible, it is best to run the air conditioner. Also, if your pet is small, you can place also him or her in a box or a small cooler chest.
DO YOU PROVIDE EUTHANASIA SERVICES?
We do not. You will need to contact your veterinary office, a mobile veterinarian or Haven Humane for euthanasia services.
IN THE CHECKOUT SECTION IT SAYS SHIPPING OF THE URN WITH CREMAINS IS “FREE”
BUT IN OTHER AREAS IT SAYS THERE WILL BE A CHARGE. WHY?
At the time you are purchasing the urn, we are unable to know the overall weight of the urn along with your pet’s cremains. Once the cremation has been completed, we will then be able to determine the shipping cost. We will advise you of shipping fee and to request payment. USPS regulations requires all cremains, pet or human, to be sent Priority Express Mail. After your pet's cremains have shipped, we will provide you with a tracking number. An adult will need to be present to sign.
